ELEVEN Year 10 geographers attended the opening of the world-class Environment and Sustainability Institute at Penryn at the invitation of Exeter University.
After an early start, the group was soon actively involved in the varied range of workshops that the research staff had devised.
The work focused on topics as diverse as the socio-economic future of Cornwall, shark tagging, gold processing and honey bees; it was a pleasure to see everyone participate with such enthusiasm and insight.
The day was particularly impressive because the staff members who directed the studies are considered to be among the best in the world.
With an underlying ethos aiming to ensure that all research undertaken will have real meaning, it was heartening to see so many contemporary issues addressed.
There was real academic value attached to the day and it provided our students with a memorable insight into the value of undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Well done to everyone involved.
