Bosavern Community Farm in St Just is set to launch a new veg box scheme that hopes to attract 80 customers in the first year following the appointment of a new Local Food and Community Coordinator.

Lynne Dyer, who comes from Penzance was handed the role on February 1 after graduating from Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs last November.

Mrs Dyer's first task is to action the boxes, which aim to allow locally produced, organic food to be accessible to everyone in west Cornwall as a social enterprise.

"It's a community-led system – all the profits will go back into the farm and community.

"It's not like other commercial veg box set-ups," said Mrs Dyer.

Mrs Dyer hopes to provide discount boxes for lower wage families, with a two-tier system she learnt while in Hackney, London.

Regular small and standard sizes will be priced at £6 and £10 and will be available to 80 per cent of customers, while the remaining 20 per cent, who qualify for support can purchase the boxes at £5 and £8.50 respectively.

Mrs Dyer spent time running cafes at festivals, working in nutrition for the NHS and at Yam Parlour, a vegetarian restaurant in Penzance town centre, before joining the Bosavern Community Farm team.

Sally Heard, CEO of Cornwall SSE, said, "We are absolutely thrilled that Lynne is using the experience of being part of the programme into this new venture. Lynne is a passionate social entrepreneur and will make a great success of her new role."

The weekly boxes will include seasonal produce sourced from Bosavern and other farms around west Cornwall.
