Police officers are trying to identify the driver of a blue Transit van following an incident in Redruth on Monday night.
Just before 8pm, the man approached a 10-year-old girl in the Close Hill area of the town.
He had a short conversation with her before she ran away.
Officers have praised the young girl's actions and would like to speak to the driver.
He is described as 30 to 35 years old, wearing a black Quicksilver hoodie and baseball cap.
Anyone with information is asked to phone the police on 1010 quoting AC/12/4842.
