A MULTI-million pound scheme to create a new road linking Camborne, Pool and Redruth has been given the final go-ahead today.
The Department for Transport has authorised Cornwall Council to construct the east-west link road to run from Wilson Way to Dolcoath Road.
It will see improvements made to Dudnance Lane in Pool and is expected to create 6,000 new jobs.
The council has also been authorised to use Compulsory Purchase Order needed to build the road.
Camborne, Redruth and Hayle MP George Eustice said: "This final go-ahead  is fantastic news for the Camborne, Redruth area and will unlock the potential for thousands of jobs and new businesses to be created in the coming decade."
A public inquiry took place at the Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth, in June.
It is hoped construction of the new road could begin as early as next spring, subject to any legal challenges, and completed by the end of 2014.
Cornwall Councillor for Camborne Central, Jon Stoneman said: "I have always been in favour of it. I think it will improve the area, create jobs and some housing and it will also act as a relief road for Tuckingmill and make that a nicer area to live.
"I know there is some opposition but sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture. Most of it is on brown field sites."
Councillor Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for Transportation and Highways, added: "After a number of false starts I'm glad we can now get on with this job.
"Camborne and Redruth will have a much better chance to build the future they each desire when this project is achieved.
"We can then breathe new life into one of the historic industrial powerhouses of the local economy that has suffered such dramatic decline since the collapse of the mining industry."
The road has been described by some local councillors as a "rat run" used by people travelling between Camborne and Redruth.
