A PANTOMIME with a difference is taking place in Penzance next Thursday. Students from the Heamoor Cornish class will be performing a Cornish language version of the pantomime Puss in Boots (Kathik yn Botas) at The Acorn in Penzance (Pensans) on Thursday, December 12 at 7.30pm. This year's performance follows the success of the group's Christmas pantomime last year, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (Erghwynn ha'n Seyth Korr), written by John Parker and performed in Landithy Hall Madron. Stage manager Karen Warne said: "We are all enjoying the challenge of a new play, and particularly looking forward this year to bringing it to a bigger stage at the Acorn and hopefully to a wider audience also. "Using the Acorn as a venue is a new departure for us, and is part of the Heamoor Cornish Language Project which has been funded by the Elmgrant Trust and the Community Chests of local Cornwall Councillors Mario Fonk and Jim McKenna." Entrance to the pantomime is free and a buffet will be provided, with drinks available to buy from the bar but donations are welcome. Koreen Twydell, who runs the class, says that they intend to put the money raised towards a campaign to get a children's book printed in Cornish: "This year we want to help get Topsy and Tim published." The group has previously supported the RNLI and Shelterbox as well as St Julia's Hospice.
