THE displays in Steckfensters' double-fronted shop window catch the eye at the best of times: but for the past week or so, there has been an even more arresting sight – a large-scale working model of the much-loved prewar Austin 7 car.
Zoe King from Steckfensters said: "Everything in it works; it's powered by battery, the bonnet and doors open as do the lights and horn. You could probably drive it on the road although it would need to be registered; there are no number plates."
The model was a one-off lovingly crafted by a Cornish engineer and, said Zoe, represented good value at an asking price of £2,200.
"We've had quite a bit of interest from collectors already; it would be perfect for someone with a bit of private land on which he or she could drive it around," she said.
