A moggy who has made Redruth Railway Station his permanent home has been adopted by staff and become a favourite with passengers who bring tasty treats for the affectionate feline.
Hector the station cat has become so popular that he even has his own Facebook page with more than 100 regular followers.
His antics have also won over many passengers who regularly look out for the whiskered celebrity who can be seen sleeping on the platform and posing in the ticket office.
Maxine Taylor, who works at the station, said they initially thought he was a stray after he appeared early one morning in March.
She said: "He arrived when the weather was very wet and it was cold. I think he liked the shelter and has been coming here every day ever since, arriving at 5am and being put out at 10.30pm each night."
It was several weeks later that staff learned he was owned by a local family who owned dogs.
Mrs Taylor added: "They know Hector is here and are happy for him to stay so we have adopted him. He has become the station mascot. He loves packs of Dreamies and enjoys sitting on the counter where he often puts a paw under the glass when I'm dealing with customers."
Passengers have so far donated enough money for staff to buy Hector his own basket and his own supply of treats.
He has even inspired a writing competition, for children aged up to 15, to create a short story or poem dedicated to Hector.
"He is such a show off and loves the attention. He's got a lovely temperament and is a great character to have roaming the station. I'm sure the youngsters will enjoy writing about him," added Mrs Taylor.
The winner of the competition will receive a rail ticket for a family of four to travel anywhere on the First Great Western network.
Poems and short stories; that are to be no more than 500 words, should be handed into the station before the closing date of September 30, 2013.
