A ST AUSTELL man has been curfewed after carrying out a "vicious" attack on two people he saw on his way from a Truro nightclub.
Both victims were taken to hospital. One had a broken tooth and both had cuts, bruises and swellings on their heads.
Josh Preston Ratty, 24, of Pondhu Crescent, St Austell, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court to assaulting Nicholas Moore and Matthew Compton on June 2.
Graham Calderwood, for the prosecution, said Ratty was with a friend in Victoria Square having been to a nightclub to celebrate a 21st birthday and the pair were on their way from there.
Ratty and his friend saw one of the two victims "dancing around".
Ratty stepped in with some verbal altercation and then viciously punched the two men, knocking them to the ground.
Afterwards Mr Moore told the police: "They should not have taken it out on us. I certainly would think twice about going to Truro again."
Ratty, who had previous convictions, was represented by counsel Malcolm Clarke, who said there had been an argument with others inside the club and Ratty had thought the two victims were involved. His companion started the attack but then he struck the two men. His behaviour had been a combination of drink and the trouble caused earlier that evening.
Ratty was curfewed for 12 weeks and told to pay £285 compensation to Mr Compton and £200 to Mr Moore, plus a £60 victim surcharge.
Ratty told the magistrates: "Since that night I scared myself and I don't want to drink again."
