The versatility of defensive duo Danny Seaborne and Alan Tate will be crucial to Yeovil Town's Sky Bet Championship prospects, according to manager Gary Johnson.
Tate made his Glovers' debut at left back on Tuesday, hours after finalising a six-month loan move from Swansea City.
With fellow defensive recruit Danny Seaborne also impressing alongside Byron Webster in the heart of the defence, Johnson believes he has the personnel in place to give Yeovil a fighting chance of at least survival in English football's second tier.
After Tuesday's 2-1 pre-season friendly victory against Exeter City at Huish Park, Johnson said: "I was really pleased with our two new lads. Danny Seaborne and Alan Tate both looked confident and comfortable.
"Alan can play all across the back four and also as a central midfielder if we need him. You can see he's experienced and he doesn't look flustered at all. He gets around the pitch and is a very good signing for us. We're really pleased.
"When Jamie McAllister is fit, he'll be competing for the left-back spot, and then we will have three centre-halves challenging for two positions.
"Seaborne can play left-back so we've got cover there, and Tait can play right-back so we've also got cover there.
"If I can find another defender who is going to push the ones we already have, then I will, but Seaborne and Tait are two who we can rely on and who have the experience to see us through."
Former Yeovil favourite Gavin Williams, who left Huish Park this summer, has joined Woking. The 33-year-old midfielder signed a one-year contract with the Blue Square Bet Premier club this week.
Woking manager Garry Hill declared that Williams has "a lot of quality" after adding the experienced ex-Bristol City and Bristol Rovers playmaker to the Cards' squad. Canada international striker Gavin McCallum, another former Yeovil player, has also signed for the Surrey side.
McCallum was with Woking last season, and has earned a second spell with the club after proving his fitness and form this summer. He and Williams both played for the Cards in last Saturday's 2-1 friendly win over an AFC Bournemouth XI at Kingfield.
The Glovers sent a side to Clevedon Town's Hand Stadium yesterday afternoon to take on Bristol City's Under-21 team in a friendly.
The fixture gave Yeovil players who have been short of match-practice in recent friendlies some game-time, and it resulted in a 3-1 win for the Glovers.
Two goals from Sam Hoskins and one from Michael Ngoo allowed Yeovil to come back from a goal down, after Aaron Ferris had scored for City.
