AN ex-Chief Superintendent of Devon and Cornwall Police has died after being found lying in the middle of a west Cornwall road.
Named this afternoon as John Allen, the 77 year old was seen in the road at Ludgvan, near Penzance, at around 6.35am this morning.
An ambulance was called and despite resucitation attempts Mr Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and Mr Allen's family and friends had been told.
Police closed the road after the incident was reported and were at the scene for around three hours.
