A bin fire which threatened the gas supply of a house in Mid-Devon, and later spread to a cavity wall, was tackled by firefighters in the early hours of yesterday. The alarm was raised at 2.30am with two fire engines from Tiverton being sent to the incident in Redvers Way. The fire, which had damaged the gas box, was doused but later found to have spread into the cavity wall. Two jets and two covering jets were used to put out the fire. An investigation into the cause of the blaze has been launched.
