A major search and rescue effort was launched after a car drove into the River Fowey in Cornwall. Witnesses raised the alarm at about 9.30pm on Wednesday after a Peugeot careered into the water from the Bodinnick ferry slipway. Emergency services arrived to find the 52-year-old man had swum back to shore. The man was taken to hospital, at Truro, for treatment. He was later bailed by police for allegedly failing to provide a breath test. The car was recovered at 1.45am yesterday.
