SCILLY'S council has greeted with caution reports that a new helicopter service could be established between the islands and the mainland.
The council, which owns the airport on St Mary's, said in a statement it welcomed any work to improve transport links to the islands.
"However, we have not had any formal discussions in relation to running a new helicopter service to the Isles of Scilly. Any potential for a rotary service to the islands still has a long way to go, including the finding of an operator and a suitable location from which to operate on the mainland."
It said it would continue to seek potential operators to fly to and from St Mary's Airport: "We remain committed to developing our airport improvement plans and are actively seeking a long-term solution to the islands' transport needs."
