A barn fire involving 300 tons of hay and straw was still burning yesterday more than 48 hours after the blaze first started. Firefighters have been at the farm at South Petherwin, near Launceston, since Saturday afternoon. The alarm was raised at 2.30pm although the blaze had spread rapidly by the time fire crews from Launceston, Callington, Bodmin and Liskeard arrived. Yesterday , a Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said "good progress" was being made, adding "a large amount of hay and straw is still burning".
