POLICE made just six arrests in St Ives on New Year's Eve despite thousands of people flocking to the town for the now famous annual celebrations.
The town was packed with revellers, many of them in fancy dress, filling the streets, pubs, bars and restaurants.
In just three incidents during the period from 6pm to 7am, officers arrested one man for being drunk and disorderly, one man for damaging a shop window in Fore Street, and four juveniles for fighting at the Malakoff.
The 19-year old arrested for being drunk and disorderly was issued with a fixed penalty fine while the 29-year-old arrested over the shop window has been bailed.
Devon and Cornwall Police say inquiries into the affray at the Malakoff are ongoing.
Nineteen members of the local policing team were on duty in St Ives with officers meeting young people off buses and trains in the town and confiscating alcohol.
Inspector Jean Phillips said:  "It was a quieter year than we've had in the past. We were seeing a lot of alcohol from young people and there were isolated incidents of disorder.
"But those six were the only arrests, and from just three incidents, which is really good. It was generally a good natured night and most people would not even have been aware of the incidents that did occur."
