Cornwall has been placed on an amber weather warning and many of its rivers are on flood alert today as the Duchy braces itself for yet more wet weather and high winds. It's only been a matter of weeks since Cornwall last drew the attention of the nation with scenes of roads as rivers, businesses and homes deluged by floods and rivers threatening to burst their banks. Exeter-based weather agency, the Met Office, has placed an amber weather warning on Cornwall for Wednesday and Thursday with periods of heavy rain. Flood alerts have been put into place by the Environment Agency on St Austell, Par and West Cornwall rivers in Pentewan, St Blazey, Luxulyan, Lanivet, Lands End, Helston, Crowlas, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne and Perranporth. The Environment Agency warned a "band of rain is expected from Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday morning. "This could bring 10 to 20 mm of rain with higher accumulations possible on higher ground. "With river levels high and ground saturated, flooding is possible." A further weather warning is already in place for Cornwall on Saturday as strong southerly winds are expected to bring yet more heavy downpours on to already saturated ground.
