Icy conditions lead to treacherous roads in Cornwall

ICY conditions were causing problems on the roads around Cornwall this morning as temperatures plummeted overnight.
Cornwall Council said gritters left their depots at 7pm last night to cover the county's road network ahead of the forecast frost.
But many drivers still reported treacherous conditions on the roads this morning and police were called to deal with several minor incidents around the county.
At Rosehill in Porthtowan, officers responded to a vehicle that had slid on ice at around 8am, while other minor accidents were reported in Dolcoath Road, Camborne, and between St Just and Penzance.
A police spokesman said: "It should be no surprise to motorists at this time of year when temperatures drop and ice forms on the road.
"If you are able to delay your journey until the sun comes up so much the better. If you're unable to do this then treat every stretch of road as having the potential to be icy.
"It's a well-known fact that higher speeds cause more collisions."
