Anecdotal and observational comedy has long since propelled Michael McIntyre to the forefront of British entertainment.
Now he has broken a new Plymouth Pavilions record after selling out his six-night tour.
The Pavilions has sold 14,893 tickets for the comedy star, a new record for a run of Pavilions shows.
This beats the last record of 12,582 tickets for comic Lee Evans, when he started his tour in the city in August last year.
Dawn Sloggett, marketing manager of the Pavilions, said: "It's really good kudos for us with Michael McIntrye being here so long. It's great for the city and for Plymouth's night-time economy. We're not one of the biggest cities, but Plymouth has a brilliant reputation for comedy.
"Audiences like coming to the venue and they have big audiences. They try out a lot of their material here as I think they can get an honest opinion.
"We do have a big influence on comedians. They start their tour in Plymouth quite often."
Michael McIntyre, the star of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, Britain's Got Talent and the winner of the 2010 British Comedy Award for Best Male TV Comic, will start his third and biggest UK arena tour to date in Plymouth. His first appearance at the Pavilions is tonight at 8pm.
