TOM Russell and Liam Eddy grabbed the goals as Helston Athletic deservedly booked their place in the next round of the Cornwall Charity Cup at the expense of division one west title rivals Godolphin Atlantic.
It was a win that also avenged Helston's humiliating 5-1 league defeat at Godolphin earlier in the season, with the visitors well below their best at Kellaway Parc on Saturday.
Helston could easily have won by a much larger margin, even affording a penalty miss when Mark Goldsworthy hit the foot of the post in the first half.
They led after 32 minutes thanks to a Russell diving header from Dan Stidwell's excellent cross from the left.
And they were presented with the opportunity to double their lead when referee Jon Barnicoat pointed to the spot after Godolphin defender Ollie Pinnell was harshly adjudged to have held back Eddy in the box. But Goldsworthy's hopes of adding to his already impressive tally this season were denied by the woodwork.
But despite the let off, Godolphin never looked like threatening Helston's goal. And they were fortunate not to be reduced to ten men when striker Richard Griffin, already on a yellow card after kicking the ball away, petulantly kicked out at Jordan Adlard off the ball in the 54th minute.
As Helston continued to create chances, Eddy made sure of victory in the 67th minute when he finished well at the back post after controlling Goldsworthy's excellent 30 yard pass.
