A ST IVES man will step into a new role with a global organisation which aims to unite deafblind people across the world.
Simon Allison has set up a youth network within Deafblind International to raise awareness of deafblindness and support the development of services which enable a better quality of life for people with sight and hearing impairments.
The youth network is one of several networks working together, with future plans that include international exchange visits, short break holidays, forums and participation in Deafblind International conferences.
Mr Allison said: "It is very important that we provide a worldwide platform for young deafblind people. Deafblind International is a fantastic organisation to be associated with and is very supportive of youth involvement."
The network has recently appointed country coordinators who will be the first point of contact with young deafblind people in countries such as Romania, Argentina, Norway and Malawi.
For the last 15 years Mr Allison has worked for deafblind charity, Sense, and also coordinated the Get Out There group for young disabled people in Cornwall.
