A DRIVER caused a portable building to fall off the back of his lorry, crushing a car which had been waiting to pass.
The incident happened after the lorry became snagged on trees on a road near Tehidy.
Truro magistrates heard the 44-year-old lorry driver from Helston tried to force his way through the branches, causing his load to fall off.
On Wednesday, Stephen Hart, of Cunnack Close, Helston, admitted to driving without due care and attention.
The court heard Hart was driving a Scania heavy goods lorry, one of three vehicles in convoy, on June 21.
The incident happened after the lorries passed down an unclassified road between Illogan Downs and Mount Whistle.
A blue Honda car was coming in the opposite direction and had stopped to let the lorries pass, the court was told.
The prosecution said that as the third lorry, driven by Hart, attempted to pass the car, the mobile building on the back struck some tree branches overhanging the road. The lorry became stuck and the court heard how Hart increased power – but rather than breaking through the branches, the load on the back of the lorry fell off, smashing onto the Honda.
The driver was slightly injured and the car and building were substantially damaged.
At a previous hearing, Hart had pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed his plea at court last week.
He was fined £70 and had three points put on his diving licence. He was also ordered to pay £150 court costs and £20 victim surcharge.
