School children from across Cornwall will celebrate racking up hours of extra-curricular study today at the Children's University's biggest ever graduation ceremony.

The event at the Tremough Campus in Penryn will bring together over 150 young learners from schools across Cornwall in two ceremonies.

The event is being hosted by the Universities of Exeter and Falmouth at the campus they share in Penryn.

The youngsters will also have a chance to try out a range of learning activities with local colleges, universities and businesses organised by Cornwall Learning Education Business Partnership.

The youngsters will be presented with certificates having built up between 65 and 600 hours of independent learning as part of the Children's University, a national scheme which encourages five to 14-year-olds to get involved in high quality learning activities outside of school hours.

Lisa Neville of Cornwall Learning, which manages the Children's University in Cornwall, said: "Our graduations are always a great celebration of their achievements and for this event we wanted to make it extra special with the addition of an interactive learning zone."

Ms Neville added: "There will be robots, giant bubbles, microscopes, 'minibeasts', musical instruments and animal skulls to name just a few of the exhibits on offer."
