THE PEOPLE behind St Ives' roller disco are to hold a fundraiser for survivors of the Philippines tornado.

Rollers and Fore Street Church will host a roller disco and sponsored endurance marathon today at St Ives Guildhall.

From 5pm to 7pm there will be an open disco with the entrance fee of £5 going to the appeal. Then, at 7pm, organiser Nathan Thomas will have his head shaved.

From 7.45pm, those signed up and sponsored will take part in a roller marathon or half-marathon of 15km or 30km.

Nathan said: "We're hoping to raise £2,000 just from shaving my head but 100 per cent of all money raised will go to charity Hope Link.

"I went to the Philippines a couple of years ago. Many outer islands have received little or no aid since the typhoon. Our money will make a difference.

"We would encourage people to turn up to skate but, more so, to support the whole event."

People can also collect in the streets, with buckets available at Street Life Skates, Keebunga and St Eia Cabin.

To take part in the roller marathon call Nathan on 07525 219463.
