A woman died and five people were taken to hospital in two separate motor incidents yesterday.
The woman died following a collision in Taunton between her mobility scooter and a grey Vauxhall Corsa, believed to have been driven by an elderly woman.
The incident happened at 10.40am, at East Reach, forcing a long road closure and causing huge tailbacks all around the town and as far as the motorway.
Later, on the M5, five people were treated at the roadside before being taken to hospital by road and air after a vehicle overturned.
A 4x4 rolled over on the northbound carriageway between junction 27 at Sampford Peverell and junction 26 at Chelston, closing the motorway in both directions, shortly before 5pm.
The fire service said all those involved were free of the vehicle when crews arrived but the casualties were being given first aid and oxygen.
Some were taken to hospital in the air ambulance and others by land ambulance.
The incidents were among a number on and around the M5 yesterday.
Motorists travelling west on the motorway were delayed by as much as four hours following an accident in which a man died after being hit by a truck in Worcestershire at 7.45am, forcing closure of all three southbound lanes.
