A PENZANCE film-maker swapped the Cornish summer heatwave for the monsoon season in the rainforest of south-east Asia to help highlight the importance of access to maternal healthcare.

Jude Moore, who studied media production at Truro College, recently spent nine days travelling to isolated villages in Myanmar to film the work of Red Cross volunteers, which will be used in the charity's television adverts from September.

The aim of the project is to improve healthcare for mothers and children in some of the most isolated communities by improving access to services, training, and healthcare providers, as well as raising awareness of common, preventable diseases.

He said: "I'm very proud to have been a part of this trip. I hope that the film will help to raise awareness of the issues that thousands of women and children are facing every day and the importance of the work of the Red Cross in improving access to maternal healthcare."

Since moving to London 18 months ago, the 29-year-old has been using his filming talents to help promote the work of the charity.

It was an eye-opening experience for Jude, visiting some of the remote locations the volunteers are working in.

"It was a very emotional assignment. I found it very difficult to film but their plight really hammered home the importance of this project and how having access to local healthcare can really make all the difference," he said.

The Red Cross maternal health project will run for the next three years in 78 villages in Myanmar.
