MORE than 50 friends and family members will embark on a charity bike ride from Southampton to Truro this weekend in remembrance of a loving wife, stepmother, aunt and daughter.

The 220-mile trip will be undertaken in memory of Lesley Roe, 35, who died from leukaemia at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, in December last year.

The four-day cycle will follow the route which Lesley drove regularly from her home in Southampton to her birthplace in Truro.

Lee Collett, Lesley's widower, said: "We are undertaking the bike ride to mark the determination and courage Lesley showed throughout her treatment. She was amazing and certainly touched us all.

"We just wanted to give something back to the charities which helped. We also want to thank the two hospitals and staff where she was treated, Treliske hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary."

The riders aim to arrive at Lemon Quay between 2pm and 3pm on Sunday. There will be fundraising activities and competitions at the finishing line, hosted by TR1 Fitness from 11am.

Mr Collett hopes the bike ride will raise £10,000 for the charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. The total so far stands at approximately £8,000.
