A Cornish band's song to promote the World's Biggest Coffee morning, held at the end of September to raise money for cancer charity Macmillan, has become a national hit.
Wadebridge group The Claze were approached by the Cornwall Macmillan team to write a song about coffee and friendship. The band dutifully did so – and the song, Tulips and Coffee, was inspired by their friend Naomi, who has cancer.
In little under three weeks the song has received over 3,000 YouTube hits, reached more than 850,000 people on Twitter, and been played on BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Radio 2.
It has been so well received it has had support from the England rugby Captain Chris Robshaw, BBC sports presenter Clare Balding and author Amanda Prowse.
Fundraising manager Emma Wright said the team was really grateful to the band.
She said: "The song is based around the idea that simple things such as friendship, community and laughter can really make a difference to people, and it fits perfectly with the idea behind our big coffee morning fundraising event.
"We are so fortunate that the band have allowed us to use the song to promote our coffee morning event, and it has been amazing to see how the power of social media and the good will of people has allowed us to make this such a huge success."
The band do not make any profit from the song as they are attached to social enterprise Exhale CIC, so monies raised go back into the community.
