Thousands of people descended on Plymouth city centre for the start of one of the region's largest food festivals.
The three-day Flavour Festfood extravaganza got off to a wet start but Plymouth's Piazza was filled with the sights, smells and tastes of a continental-style market.
An array of traders set up stalls offering hot roast pork baps, cheese, crepes, pastries, cakes, chocolates and all manner of tasty delights.
Food-lovers were treated to an array of cookery demonstrations, mouth-watering stalls and culinary competitions whilst children were entertained in the Food is Fun Pavilion where Bruce Cole, head chef at the Moorland Garden Hotel, taught enthusiastic youngsters how to make tasty treats.
"The first day of Flavour Fest has been fantastic," he said. "The youngsters are taking so much interest in food. It's about creating childhood memories for them around fresh produce which is the best form of eating without a doubt.
"We've done a minestrone risotto, an infant puree using butternut squash, pears and potatoes, and lamb meatball pasta for the toddlers using Dartmoor lamb and I'm going to whip up a chocolate dish too.
"It's the first year I've done Flavour Fest but I will definitely be back next year."
Flavour Fest has continually grown in popularity with footfall figures regularly exceeding 150,000.
This year's festival, the tenth, has welcomed additional trading stalls and stretches through the heart of Plymouth's city centre from the Kitchen Theatre on the Piazza, to Place de Brest where the real ales and wines area is located.
A variety of local ale, wine, cider and beer stalls feature in the new area along with entertainment from touring Covent Garden entertainers including an international street dancer, an escape artist and a lack rope walker.
The event's Cookery Theatre is a hugely popular feature attracting large numbers of spectators who come to watch the live cookery demonstration's by the impressive line-up of celebrity and well-known regional chefs.
The Kitchen Theatre kick-started the event with Flavour Fest's version of 'Ready, Steady, Cook' where Chris and James Tanner went head-to-head.
Today,one of the city's new high-profile celebrity chefs Anton Piotrowski, winner of Masterchef The Professionals 2012, is expected to create quite a stir when he gives a master cookery demonstration.
Holly Reynolds, assistant city centre manager, said: "It's been a great, but wet, start to Flavour Fest. This year we've got lots of new things like our real ale and wine area, world food area and our street entertainers. Chris and James Tanner have already proved really popular and we are expecting Anton to draw a big crowd. We are expecting it to be the biggest and best yet."
