Facilities for cancer patients at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital have been boosted thanks to a £300,000 donation.
A new mould room has opened at the hospital's Beacon Centre enabling customised accessories to be made for the treatment of head, neck and some skin cancers.
The facility, which was funded by the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), will mean patients no longer need to travel to Bristol or Exeter for treatment.
Ros Wyke, chair of the Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, praised SURE for its good work and highlighted that the donation was the latest in a long line of projects they had funded.
"Musgrove's patients and staff are extremely grateful for the charity's considerable, on-going support for the Beacon Centre," she said.
The opening concluded with the unveiling of a plaque by SURE members, celebrating the achievements of the charity's life president, Eric Saffin, who died earlier this year.
Vicky Gordon, of SURE, said: "This has been an excellent day for us. We are very grateful to the Beacon staff for hosting this event."
The charity also used the event to promote fundraising for their next project – purchase of a synergy X-ray imaging unit to confirm the accuracy of radiotherapy treatment.
