A historic hotel in Falmouth, from which Beatrix Potter wrote her first picture letter, celebrated its 150th anniversary in Falmouth on Sunday with a traditional English Garden fete
The Falmouth Hotel boasts an illustrious history, with guests including King Edward VII, Sir Ian Botham and Simon Le Bon, from Duran Duran, who famously ended up there "half drowned" after his yacht lost its keel in the Fastnet Race.
Around 1,000 people attended the celebration, raising hundreds for the Motor Neurone Association and the Alzheimer's Society. Entertainment included traditional stalls, swing boats, Punch and Judy and a coconut shy.
"We were absolutely thrilled that there were so many familiar local faces," said Richardson hotels, group general manager, Ben Young. "As we enter our 151st year we are just hoping to continue this long historic connection between the hotel and town."
