HUNDREDS of people flocked to the Latchley, Chilsworthy and Cox Park Show on Saturday to celebrate village life.

Held at the Showfield in Latchley, just north of Gunnislake, the show saw more than 1,100 entries staged in the marquee and with a full complement of trade stands, there was plenty on show for visitors and exhibitors alike.

Celebrity restaurateur, Peter Gorton of Gorton's Restaurant awarded the many silver trophies to winners of the marquee classes and the Best Exhibit in Show went to Maggi Murray of Chilsworthy for a Floral Art exhibit.

An event spokesman said: "The 'Arrow Barrows' display team amused the audience with their 'military madness', precision wheelbarrow flying and unpredictable mayhem.

"Vintage cars, tractors and stationary engines were on display and many were happy to parade their wonderful old machines around the show ring and the prize for the Best Turned-out Vintage car and driver was Henry Flashman in his 3.5 litre Bentley Sports.

"St Ives potter, John F Buchanan, was on hand to give pottery demonstrations and advice. Cotehele Quay Gig Club brought along one of their gigs for the public to admire and there were continuing traditional field events with a dog show, pony show, Punch and Judy event, rare beed animals and a huge bouncy slide.

"Children's races were organised by Dimson Nursery from Gunnislake and Callington Town Band played beautifully to entertain everyone.

"Special thanks to Callington Lions, Tamar Valley WI, Hilary (our very lovely town crier) and our local policing, and fire and rescue service.

"The organising committee wish to sincerely thank all those who have volunteered in any way by giving freely of their time, energy and resources in order to make the show a success on the day."
