RNLI lifeguards in Cornwall reported another busy weekend, puling surfers from rip currents, rescuing capsized kayaks and helping paddle boarders who were blown out to sea.

The surge in incidents comes after 70 people were rescued from the 16 beaches around Newquay and Padstow just over a week ago.

On Saturday, senior lifeguard Tom Evans rescued two young brothers caught in a rip tide who were being taken out of their depth body-boarding off Chapel Porth beach.

At neighbouring Porthtowan, Kian Harris and Adam Bunt used the inshore rescue board (IRB) to rescue a surfer and a bodyboarder caught in a rip current and struggling to return to shore.

Later, Matt Bannister and Josh Ward rescued two novice surfers and a swimmer caught in the same current, again using the IRB.

On Sunday, Damian Prisk and Cameron Ward rescued a kayaker who had capsized and was being blown by the strong wind towards the rocks.

At Hayle beach an instructor and four school children, aged between 8 and 10 years old, were blown out to sea stand-up paddle boarding.

The lifeguards gathered up the group with the help of a local fishing boat and then retrieved their equipment.
