The summer auction soon to be hosted by Penzance auction house Barnes Thomas is to include perhaps the finest selection of paintings to be auctioned in the Westcountry this year. Many a name can be found in the auction to take place on Monday, July 8.

Works by Royal Academicians such as Professor Ken Howard, Mary Fedden, John Bellamy and Peter Kuhfeld can be found adorning the pages of Barnes Thomas' forthcoming catalogue.

A charming drawing by internationally acclaimed sculptor Henry Moore is to be included in the sale. This small work on paper has a fine provenance and is to be sold with a copy of a book published by the Henry Moore Foundation in which it is illustrated. The drawing has a pre-sale estimate of £5,000-£6,000.

Much attention has been given to the small bohemian colony of Lamorna since the recent release of the film Summer in February.

The sale includes many a name of Lamorna with works by Laura Knight, Dod Procter, Charles Walter Simpson, Henry Rheam and Dennys Law, to name but a few. The neighbouring colony of the Newlyn Artists is also well represented with works by Walter Langley, Frank Bodilly, Caroline Cooper Gotch and Harold Harvey.

A collection of woodcuts by sculptor Dennis Mitchell have a simplistic style and modest guide of £100-£150 and would be an asset to any collection. The sale is also to include three of his works on paper with estimates ranging from £1,000-£3,000.

A powerful oil by Mousehole artist Jack Pender, Interlocked 90, is to be sold against a £4,000-£5,000 guide.

Fourteen Kurt Jackson etchings, drawings and paintings, rarely seen or exhibited before, have been consigned to auction by Truro's Lemon Street Gallery – this makes for excellent provenance for all keen Jackson collectors. Works include rare Glastonbury festival paintings and the prices range from £100-£4,000.

The auction can be viewed online at barnesthomas.co.uk or in person from Thursday, July 4, to Sunday, July 7, between 10am and 4pm, and on the morning of the auction – Monday, July 8 – between 10am and the sale commencement at 1pm.
