YEOVIL TOWN 1 BRISTOL ROVERS 1
Gary Johnson called for more leadership from his Yeovil team after Bristol Rovers struck a late equaliser to earn a draw in their friendly at Huish Park.
A lapse in defence led to Rovers midfielder Oliver Norburn tapping home after good link-up play with Joe Anyinsah six minutes from time.
The Glovers thought they had ground out a hard-earned win four minutes earlier when Chelsea loanee Rohan Ince drilled a 30-yard drive.
Yeovil, who remain unbeaten in their build-up campaign, have only conceded two goals so far in pre-season.
However, Glovers boss Johnson said: "The way that we played wasn't totally comfortable. A few individuals have tried very hard to win us the game today, notably Ed Upson.
"We need to make sure everyone knows their role and we need to make sure they know where they are going to be.
"The first half was bitty, but I felt we came out stronger at the start of the second half.
"It looks like we have a group of players who need to be given instructions rather than dish them out to each other.
"Perhaps we will be looking to get more of that out of some of the older and more senior players. We will get there. There's plenty of time."
Rovers' winger Mustapha Carayol was missing from the team sheet and manager Mark McGhee confirmed after the final whistle that talks were underway with Middlesbrough to take the fans' favourite to the Riverside.
German trialist Fabian Broghammer started for Rovers on the right and he forced Glovers' goalkeeper Marek Stech into an impressive save.
The 22-year-old had looked an exciting prospect, but limped off after 25 minutes with a thigh strain.
A scrappy first half saw Stech forced into a good save from a Jim Paterson header before Yeovil's Upson and Gavin Williams looked to take a hold on the game.
On 15 minutes, Upson picked up a loose ball in the middle of the park and a quick shot from 20 yards went wide of the Rovers' goal. It was Upson again who powered forward seven minutes later when he intercepted a Rovers' pass, marched into the box only for Reuben Reid to shoot over.
David Clarkson misfired for Rovers on 40 minutes, while Anyinsah, who replaced the injured Broghammer, could have taken more time with a chance just before the break.
In the second half, the Glovers introduced Lewis Young, the younger brother of Manchester United's Ashley, for the influential Williams.
For long periods, the Glovers controlled the play with Upson again proving menacing in the final third.
Matt Harold's ability to hold possession kept Yeovil's back four busy, but little materialised for the League Two side.
Upson's persistence paid off with 12 minutes to go when he won a tussle at the edge of the Rovers' box.
The ball was played back to Ince, who powered a shot home to the bottom left-hand corner of Connor Gough's goal from what Rovers must have thought was a highly unlikely position.
However, the lead lasted just four minutes as Anyinsah capitalised on some weak defending and was able to deliver a simple pass for Norburn to tuck away and earn Rovers a draw.
