A NEW website launched in Fowey this week aims to promote the town and its attractions to the wider world.

LoveFowey.net acts as a virtual shopfront for the town, highlighting the various shops, restaurants, attractions and accommodation owners with the goal of attracting more visitors both from within Cornwall and beyond the county borders.

Nearly 40 businesses signed up in the first week to promote their services, including TV chef James Strawbridge (see story below), one of the first to join.

"I've really been welcomed by this community since coming to Cornwall seven years ago, and I'm delighted to support an initiative to help promote the many great local shops and eateries in this town," he said.

"We really do have lots to shout about in Fowey."

All shops, cafés, restaurants and accommodation providers in Fowey have an automatic listing on LoveFowey.net, but a full business profile and picture can be added for an introductory price of £35 per year – rising to £50 after May 31.

The website also offers a free page to charities and community groups and a section where anyone can post details of events.

Activity from the website can be tracked on Twitter by following @LoveFowey.

Co-founder Sinead Hanks said: "Being brought up in Fowey I'm keen to develop more of an online presence for all we have here.

"I've worked with local businesses in London and elsewhere in the South West, and have seen the success that many towns have had in promoting their area in this way. The more websites there are about Fowey, the better."
