FIVE weddings over this weekend's World Gig Championship were due to launch Scilly's new purpose-built beachfront Register Office on St Mary's.
The building, part of the Porthcressa Regeneration Scheme, opened on Monday.
With the championships attracting hundreds of rowers from across the South West, some are choosing to tie the knot at the event.
"It's wonderful that the islands have such a special meaning to so many people," said superintendent registrar Alison Gardner.
"Scilly is a wonderful place to get married, and we look forward to seeing many happy couples pass through our doors in the years to come."
The Register Office, which has spent the past year in the old secondary school building at Carn Thomas, is to have a specially designed ceremony room with views directly overlooking Porthcressa Beach.
