Arsonists have been blamed for starting a moorland blaze that spread for over a mile. The fierce fire, which could be seen for miles around, is thought to have been started deliberately near North Molton at about 9pm on Wednesday. Four fire crews were called to the scene of the blaze on the outskirts of the village. Firefighter Steve Isaac, from Barnstaple, said: "It was being fanned by the wind, which left crews having to chase the flames. It was very difficult terrain and marshy in some areas."
