Bodmin Town manager Darren Gilbert has revealed that club captain Steve Simmonds will miss the Westinsure Cornwall Senior Cup final against Helston at Saltash on Easter Monday.
Simmonds, a school teacher, has had to stand in for a colleague on a school trip and won't be back until later next week.
Gilbert said: "It was very much a last minute thing, and Steve decided to go. We're disappointed obviously but it is Steve's job."
Simmonds has again produced consistently good performances in the centre of Bodmin's defence this season and his partnership with Tom Chambers is regarded as the best in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.
Bodmin are likely to replace Simmonds with long-serving Huw Morgan, as they did in Good Friday's 1-1 draw at Newquay.
Gilbert is also expected to restore midfield men Steve Colwell and Olly Brokenshire, and striker Chris Luxton, to the starting line-up against Helston. All three started on the bench against Newquay.
Gilbert said: "We took a bit of a gamble by leaving them out, but if we had played them and one or two had picked up knocks, we would have been short of options for Monday's final."
