So, the 14th is nearly upon us once more, sending us into a frenzy of planning, buying, cooking, washing (!) and generally preparing for romance. In many cases it's a time for making too.
What could be nicer than a token of your love that you have put time and effort into designing and making something where you can express a message all of your own, be that 'roses are red' or 'come straight to bed'!
This year, and there's still just enough time, why not get creative, get the kids involved, make a mess, have some fun and surprise your beloved with a handmade token.
Collage is a beautiful way to create your own greeting card, why not find pretty patterns in magazines, heart shapes and suitable text and make PVA or Pritt stick your friend!
If you're struggling for inspiration but like the idea of making something yourself why not follow our little project to make your own egg cosy complete with little heart, very cute and practical too – what could be better?
This is a fun project suitable from about aged 10 with only fairly basic sewing skills required. You can also re-use this come Easter – handy!
This project comes from our 'make your own egg cosy' kits which we sell in our shop in St Ives or on our website.
You'll need some lovely brushed cotton fabric for the outer of your cosy and a nice lining fabric, we like a ticking or a baby cord. You will need to cut two outers and two linings from these, approx 12cm by 12cm but with a curved top (see the pictures to give you a better idea).
You'll also need some pretty webbing or ribbon for your tab.
Then you need a sewing machine (ideally though you could just about manage doing this by hand, if you're patient!), some thread and a wooden embroidery hoop, 4" is ideal. Lastly you will need some pretty fabric to cut your egg from and a little scrap of pretty fabric to make cut your heart out of.
See the images for the instructions and leave us a comment or tweet us if you get stuck! Happy Valentines x
