Truro City keeper Luke McCormick has tonight left the club to join Npower League 2 side Oxford United.
The 29-year-old former Plymouth Argyle keeper joined the Blue Square South side earlier this season in a controversial move after being released early from prison following being sentenced to more than seven years after admitting killing two children while drink driving.
McCormick made ten appearances for City, with his last in Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Chelmsford City.
His signing on non-contract terms by Truro, when they were in administration, attracted some unwanted bad publicity for the club, but on the field McCormick has impressed in a struggling side and Truro now need to find a new keeper ahead of Saturday's long trip to Dover Ath.
City chairman Pete Masters said a number of clubs had been interested in signing McCormick, who was tipped for the top until the 2008 accident.
In a statement Masters said: "Given Luke's previous history, the club came under substantial criticism from both the local and national Press, indeed some supporters voted with their feet which proved costly.
"That said, the club remained at Luke's side and gradually introduced him again to the game of football and more importantly the supporters on both sides.
"Those who know football will need no reminding what happened to Luke at Swindon Town. Truro City is pleased to have been part of Luke's rehabilitation to date and wish him well for the future at Oxford United."
Speaking to me this evening, Mr Masters, who along with Philip Perryman, rescued the club from the brink of extinction, said the club had done "OK" from McCormick's move.
Although he said the terms of the deal were confidential he revealed they would be playing a pre-season friendly against Oxford United next season.
"The club has benefited from the move," he added
He also added the club hoped to have two new signings in place before the Dover game with another to follow next week as City desperately try to escape relegation.
"We are making great strides off the pitch but it would be nice to get some wins on it," he said.
