A Westcountry police chief constable leaves his post today after claiming the new police and crime commissioner (PCC) has "tarnished" his long and distinguished career.
Outgoing Avon and Somerset Chief Constable Colin Port said newly-elected PCC Sue Mountstevens lacks "emotional intelligence".
Mr Port was given a ceremonial send-off yesterday by the force and was escorted by two police motorcycle outriders and officers on horseback.
His tenure ends officially at midnight.
He said: "I was very moved by the kindness shown by my colleagues who said goodbye to me today."
Mr Port refused to reapply for his job when Ms Mountstevens won the election for PCC and decided to appoint a new chief constable.
The pair's dispute became personal last week when Mr Port was interviewed as his eight-year tenure at the helm of the force police came to an end.
Mr Port is still thinking about appealing his failed High Court bid to delay the appointment of a new chief and to get six months' notice of his contract ending.
