One of Cornwall's most picturesque harbours is to get a £100,000 cash injection to secure the future of its fishing industry.
Coverack, near Lizard Point, is home to about dozen full and part-time fishermen who have been struggling with aging onshore equipment.
However a grant of nearly £79,000 has now been awarded to the Coverack Harbour Company to pay for vital upgrades.
The money, secured through the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG), will form the lion's share of a £100,000 upgrade.
Chris Ranford, of FLAG, said Coverack was a beautiful place, but the facilities for the fishermen were very out-of-date.
"It is a classic Cornish seaside village with a strong fishing community which has been struggling with old equipment," he said.
"One of the things that will be upgraded is the winch.
"At the moment the winch in Coverack is broken, but it was from the early 1900s anyway.
"A new winch will mean the fishermen can get their boats out of the water quickly, which is important in a place like Coverack."
The project will also see a new quayside hoist which will enable to fishermen to get their gear into the boats at the start of a trip and remove their catch when they return.
A small cold store and ice making facilities will also be installed at the harbour.
Mr Ranford said the aim was to make sure that fishing remained a vibrant part of the community and attracted young people into the profession.
Commander William Frisken, chairman of Coverack Harbour Company said it was great news for the community.
"Coverack has never had any financial assistance and to have this amount of investment for the harbour offers a real chance for the fishing industry to continue here for generations to come."
