AN RAF sergeant from North Cornwall has been honoured for his management of an RAF Ambulance Co-Responder scheme in Buckinghamshire.
Alex Bedborough, who was a pupil at Bodmin and Wadebridge Comprehensive Schools, joined the RAF at 16 and has served in Afghanistan, is the son of David and Rose Bedborough, who live at Boscastle.
He received the Air Officer Commanding's commendation in a presentation at RAF Halton near Wendover by Air Vice-Marshal Mike Lloyd.
The co-responder scheme is a joint venture between the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust and RAF stations in which volunteers provide lifesaving treatment for casualties while waiting for an ambulance.
The citation said Sergeant Bedborough had devoted significant amounts of his own time to managing the scheme, which had expanded significantly due to his dedication and motivational abilities.
